Wow I came in here with my friend today and this place is outstanding! The service we got was excellent. We ordered the chicken wings which are fried on the spot and tossed with hot sauce. MmmM They were a little small, but I dont mind because they were so freaking delicious! We also ordered the smothered chicken burrito and I must say I am a fan! Lots of chicken, great portion sizes! My friend also ordered the chicken leg meal for her boyfriend and he was so excited to eat it. Overall, I'm definitely coming back sometime! The hard part was communicating because everyone there speaks Spanish and I'm pretty sure the staff mostly sees Mexican Clientele. I heard about this place from a Mexican friend! Truly authentic and really good prices! The Burrito was $7 and we got 12 wings for like $9? The chicken leg and thigh meal with beans and rice was $8.50. Super stoked on this place and I'll definitely come back!
The only downside is this place isnt exactly tidy. It is kind of dirty and we got the food to go because the tables weren't wiped down or anything. That's why I docked it one star. Otherwise the food is GREAT! This is definitely a gem and foodies will appreciate it! -

So meh chicken, bad dining, crap service, and overpriced- that's 4 strikes that puts Rico Pollo towards the bottom of the heap of many finer Mexican options on Federal Ave.
It's not so Rico Pollo. I ordered the 1/2 chicken. It was ok and a little dry. Just ok. Not great or anything. It came with beans, rice, and tortillas - big effing whoop. Increasing the whole sexy factor for this overpriced experience is the presentation of a styrofoam plate on a tray in a dumpy dingy dining room with crappy service.
Let me unpack this further in snarky review banter.
Here's my beef with chicken- chicken is a very easily substituted entree. Everybody serves chicken and most of it is mediocre so when chicken is your main deal, you better be damn good at it.
I can get a 2 piece combo at Popeye's with 2 better sides for $6 and be more satisfied. Hell, I can get the whole rotisserie chicken at the grocery store for $5 so why am I paying $15 for chicken and a drink at this dump? I can do much MUCH better at this price point.
Why do they call it Rico? Yeah- mismatched booths, dirty dated floors, kiddie gumball machines in the main dining room, hand written menu signs taped everywhere, nasty bathrooms, unfriendly transactional employees that are doing you a favor, and utter silence in the dining area to set the mood other than the gossipy employees. Burger King is more Rico and regal than this dump. -

Not the nicest part of town but the neighborhood is improving. This place has been here for very many years and they have good Mexican style grilled chicken. I first ate here in 2002 and the grilled chicken is consistent/good. Most employees speak Spanish only but the lady behind the counter speaks English and has been there forever. Most patrons are Spanish speakers. It's almost like taking a trip to small town Mexico without leaving town.
As of today half of grilled chicken with two big sides of rice & refried beans, 2 grilled peppers, 3 grilled green onions, three types of salsa and 5 corn tortillas plus tax was $12.41, not bad. -

The restaurant was very dirty today the food was cold to like if it had just been sitting out and they got my order wrong place used to be really good now they lost her touch did not recommend this place the food was not good at all tasted old kind of disgusting and it was over a price if it was good I wouldn't mind that it was not good at all

The food is great taste but portions (or the chickens) are small. Maybe they are mini birds. You end up having to buy extra because it's 21$ an order of tiny chicken with sides of rice and beans. Costco chicken is 5$. The place could Definitely could use a strong cleaning.
